Missouri State is coming off a FCS Playoffs appearance, in which they lost to UT-Martin by only 1-point in one of the best games of the FCS season last year. The Bears return a lot of talent from that 8-4 team in 2021, including Walter Payton Award finalist Jason Shelley at the QB position.

The Bears landed another impact player in former North Dakota RB Otis Weah, who announced his commitment this afternoon.

Weah has been one of the top FCS RBs over the last two seasons at North Dakota. Over the last two seasons; Weah is a 2X 1st Team All-MVFC selection, Walter Payton Award finalist, & a 2X FCS All-American selection. Weah has rushed for over 1,400 yards, 18 touchdowns, & has averaged over 6 yards per carry throughout his North Dakota career.

The RB room is absolutely loaded for the Bears including the return of last season’s leading rusher Kevon Latulas and Celdon Manning, who lead the Bears in rushing in the spring season. Andrew Cunningham also returns after he missed the 2021 season due to a lingering injury. Kansas State transfer Jacardia Wright also transfers into an already crowded RB room for the 2022 season.

Wyatt D. Wheeler of the Springfield News-Leader talked to Weah after his commitment and Weah had this to say about what intrigued him about Missouri State:

“(Missouri State) is a group of guys that transferred in and came together and it’s kind of crazy what they’ve been able to do. They’re from all over the country and coming in from different colleges. I feel like it’s the coaching staff and guys started buying into what the staff had and it just blew up after that.”

Missouri State comes into the season as one of the favorites for the FCS Championship and has already been ranked #6 in the HERO Sports Preseason Poll to start the season. Missouri State & Weah will travel to face his former team on October 1st in an extremely important game in the MVFC auto bid race.
