Potts is a 3-star prospect out of Powell, TN in the class of 2023. The 6-foot, 180-pound quarterback ranks as a Top-65 player in the state of Tennessee and as a Top-130 quarterback in the country. He set the Powell High School record as a sophomore with 28 passing touchdowns and 2,590 passing yards in a season. He was selected to the 1st Team All-Knox County Team and was a semifinalist for Tennessee Mr. Football.
Potts led Powell High School to the 1st 5A state championship in school history and was named MVP after throwing for 324 yards and 4 touchdowns. He totaled 3,804 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, 411 yards rushing, and 12 rushing touchdowns last season as a junior. Potts was also named the Region 3-5A Offensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All-Knox County in 2021. He was also invited to the Elite 11 Regionals this offseason, which showcases some of the best quarterback prospects in the country. He announced his commitment to Tennessee Tech over offers from Tennessee State, Murray State, and Eastern Kentucky. Potts is the 1st commitment for the 2023 class for the Golden Eagles after the 2022 class ranked 156th in the country according to 247Sports.
Potts will bring elite playmaking ability to the Golden Eagles offense and has shown he can be the catalyst for a team to make a championship run. He has an excellent ability to extend plays and remain calm in high pressure situations. Potts should be able to compete for the starting quarterback spot immediately when he gets to campus next season. He will look to lead Powell High School to their 2nd straight state championship before taking his talents to Cookeville.
