Chattanooga looks to compete for their 1st SOCON Championship since 2015 and have been extremely active on the recruiting trail this offseason. Defense was extremely important to Chattanooga last season as the Mocs led the SOCON last season in total defense, rushing defense, & passing defense. The Mocs landed a huge addition in the secondary in former Western Kentucky defensive back Cardavion Myers.

Myers was a consensus 3-star prospect out of Piedmont, AL and ranked as a Top-70 player in the state of Alabama in the class of 2018. Over his first three seasons Myers totaled 184 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 12 interceptions, 31 pass breakups, and four forced fumbles. He was moved to quarterback during his senior year and passed for over 800 yards and 13 touchdowns, while rushing for over 1,000 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He was also selected to participate in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game in 2017. Myers committed to Western Kentucky over multiple other FBS programs including Tulane, Appalachian State, Southern Miss, & Middle Tennessee State.
Myers redshirted his first season at Western Kentucky, but saw action in 16 games over the next two seasons for the Hilltoppers. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back was primed to be a major contributor for the Hilltoppers in 2022; but announced his entry to the transfer portal in January.
The secondary for the Mocs was a huge need after 1st Team All-SOCON selection Jerrell Lawson and three-time SOCON All-American Brandon Dowdell graduated this offseason. The Mocs will have some new faces in the secondary going into the 2022 season, but return South Carolina transfer Zay Brown and senior D.J. Jackson from last season. Myers will join Louisville transfer Telly Plummer and Northern Illinois transfer J.D. Harris as major additions for the Chattanooga secondary this offseason.
The Mocs are primed to compete for the SOCON in 2022 and Chattanooga opens their 2022 season against Wofford in an important conference game.
