McNeese State comes into the 2022 season looking to claim their 1st Southland Championship since 2015. The Gary Goff era begins for the Cowboys and the new staff has been extremely active on the recruiting trail this offseason. The quarterback position for the Cowboys received a huge addition as former Georgia Southern quarterback Cam’Ron Ransom announced his commitment to McNeese State this morning on social media.

Ransom was a consensus 3-star prospect out of Lakeland, FL in the class of 2021. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal caller ranked as a Top-105 QB in the country and a Top-225 player in the state of Florida. Over his three seasons starting for Armwood High School; Ransom produced over 5,000 yards passing and 59 passing touchdowns while also rushing for over 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. He led Armwood to the 6A Florida State Title game as a sophomore and led another playoff run to the semifinals as a senior. Ransom held offers from Boston College, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, & Marshall coming out of high school.

Ransom was able to make an immediate impact for Georgia Southern as he saw action in 9 games last season with 2 starts as a true freshman for the Eagles. Ransom produced almost 500 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, & 113 yards rushing for the Eagles during the 2021 season. Ransom announced his transfer on April 26th after the conclusion of spring practices. He will have four years of eligibility left for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys will have a new starting quarterback after Cody Orgeron graduated this offseason. Kentucky transfer Walker Wood looks to be the favorite to take over the QB1 role for McNeese State in 2022, but will have to overcome multiple challengers including Ransom. Ryan Roberts, Knox Kadum, & Cameron McCalister all join a loaded quarterback room this offseason for the Cowboys.

McNeese State will open their 2022 season against the runner-ups for the 2021 FCS National Championship in Montana State on September 3rd.
