Savannah State DL Cameron Brown

Murray State is entering their final year in the OVC before heading to the MVFC beginning in the 2023 season. The defensive line was an important position that needed to be addressed after the Racers did not have a single player that exceeded 3 sacks for the 2021 season. The defensive front received a major boost when former Savannah State defensive lineman Cameron Brown announced his commitment to Murray State.

Brown was overlooked coming out of high school and received a PWO offer from Savannah State, but earned a full-time scholarship before his freshman season began. Over the past three seasons Brown has totaled over 95 tackles, 19 TFLs, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, & 2 defensive touchdowns. This past season he was named to the 2021 Black College Football Player of the Year watchlist and was named 2nd Team All-SIAC as a sophomore

The Racers lacked playmakers on the defensive line going into the 2022 season and Brown will bring a wealth of experience and production from his time at Savannah State. Brown is going to add size at 6-foot-3 and over 275-pounds, while also bringing a physicality that should help improve the Murray State defensive front. The SIAC All-American also brings a needed versatility and should be able to fill multiple roles along the Murray State defensive line.

Brown will join a Murray State defensive line that returns some top contributors from 2021 and multiple impact transfers. CJ Barnes returns from last season, while Zack Aschemann transfers in from Central Missouri and Nate Chambers comes in from Hillsdale after being named a D-II All-American last season. The defensive line from Murray State has been completely overhauled and could be a breakout group for the 2022 season.

The Racers look to win their first OVC Championship since 2002 in their final season in the conference. Murray State will open the 2022 season in Lubbock, TX against Texas Tech before hosting Jacksonville State in a huge FCS out of conference matchup.

  1. Murray State this young man is a great pick up. Great young man with a great family. I coached his mother in HS and coached him 1 year at Walnut Grove High. He was a up and coming shot put / discuss man then. Great attitude, very humble and coachable. We will see him on Sundays.
